Dimple Ajmera: DEMOCRAT

for nc treasurer

Dimple Ajmera is a CPA, two-term Charlotte City Councilwoman and proven fighter for all North Carolinians. As a CPA, she managed multimillion-dollar budgets, including working with TIAA (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association). As a councilmember she has championed affordable healthcare for thousands of local employees.

Dimple didn’t come from great means. She experienced the struggles many people face. As your NC Treasurer, Dimple will work tirelessly for access to healthcare for all, protect taxpayers, and invest in a sustainable infrastructure and resilient future. It’s time to say ‘No’ to failed leadership.

The Journey

“I wasn't born into a rich or powerful family. My family immigrated to the United States – the Land of Opportunity – when I was 16. Despite my language barrier, I had some amazing teachers and counselors who took me under their wings. I learned English, graduated from Southern High School in Durham, went on to the University of Southern California and later become a Certified Public Accountant.

“I literally went from cleaning hotel rooms to pay for college to managing multi-million dollar budgets. When my father died suddenly at the age of 55, I re-evaluated my path in life. I felt compelled to promote my father’s values and use my skills for public service. I left a lucrative career in finance to serve on City Council. I also look forward to running for the office of North Carolina’s State Treasurer.

“A second-term City Council At Large representative, I ran - and won - my race on a proven record of achievements that include Public Safety, Affordable Housing, the Environment, Women's Equality, Economic Development, and Infrastructure. I have a passion to serve all North Carolinians and strive to be a positive role model for all.”

A QUALIFIED TREASURER FOR ALL

Charlotte CITY COUNCIL

I was twice elected to City Council and served three years on the Budget Committee overseeing a $2.4 billion annual budget. As a Councilmember, I brought traction and economic opportunities to the 69-acre Eastland site, an area left undeveloped for years.

As chair of the Environment Committee, I championed the adoption of the Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP) – the city's first framework to transition to a low carbon future with bipartisan support. I am proud of my accomplishments to help ensure economic and environmental sustainability for future generations.

Charlotte Housing authority commissioner

While working at TIAA, I followed another passion – affordable housing. I was honored to serve on the Board of Commissions of the Housing Authority. In my capacity I served 25,000 individuals, providing housing and supportive services. I take pride that our residents’ self-sufficiency graduation rate is almost double the national average.

Issues

These are very polarized times. The decisions our State Legislature makes continue to have an impact on our health, pocketbooks, retirements and planet. The middle class is suffering. Opportunities for upward mobility are declining. Our democracy is at risk. As a person who had the support to bring myself up from nothing, I want every North Carolinian in every part of the state to have the same opportunity. My core issues include:

  • Provide affordable, accessible healthcare for all North Carolinians

  • Protect taxpayers’ money

  • Restore respect for our teachers, police and public employees

  • Champion sustainable infrastructure and resilient future

NC Needs

It's time we say 'NO' to a failed leadership. The incumbent State Treasurer has gambled with over half a million lives for political points, disrespected our teachers and police chief, invested in a company that pollutes our water and put his political ambition over what’s right.

Experience You Can Trust.

With my CPA experience, I understand the job of the treasurer - managing the money for North Carolina, serving as the sole trustee for our $100 billion pension fund, managing the $3 billion state employee healthcare plan which serves more than 700,000 people, and oversees all state and local bonds. I will be a fighter for you and respectfully ask for your vote.
