My Record on Infrastructure

I championed equitable transportation and recreation options, especially for the Cross Charlotte Trail. I was steadfast in my belief that "building just the southern segments would leave out neighborhoods that already lack access to greenways and trails. The city should fulfill its obligation to voters who approved bonds for a comprehensive trail through the whole city. We are in the business of equity."

Charlotte is destined to become a world-class urban city. However, when it comes to bike lanes, we have lagged behind others. Great strides were made in 2019! I supported the implementation of a two-way separated cycle track in Uptown Charlotte along portions of 5th and 6th streets. The Uptown Cycle Track will provide an important east-west bicycle connection between Little Sugar Creek Greenway and Irwin Creek Greenway. Learn more about the project overview, progress and Phase II.

Project Goals:

  • To connect the Irwin/Stewart Greenways (on the west side) to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway (on the east) and through Uptown
  • To help Charlotte reach its vision of becoming a true "City of Bikes"
  • To balance the needs of all modes of transportation and curb space users
  • To increase safety and comfort for cyclists and pedestrians
  • To increase accessibility for cyclists of all ages and abilities
